From 2001 to 2008, the Cambodian Genocide Group (CGG) was operational as an NGO dedicated to the study of the Cambodian genocide, which occurred between 1975 and 1979. The CGG worked towards two main goals:
- To foster discussion and debate among academics, students and professionals about the Cambodian genocide.
- To actively support the implementation of a genocide tribunal that would achieve justice for Cambodian genocide victims.
The CGG worked energetically with governments, non-governmental organizations and the Cambodian people to further the process of truth and reconciliation. On a broader level, the CGG increased awareness and supported genocide prevention initiatives within the wider community.
*Although the core activities of the CGG have now ceased, the group still exists as a resource for those interested in the Cambodian genocide and conflict prevention issues.
For information about the ongoing genocide tribunal (ECCC) in Cambodia, please visit the Cambodia Tribunal Monitor or the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia website. "They say that time heals all wounds. But time alone can do nothing. You will always have time. To me, research heals. Knowing and understanding what happened has set me free."
