The Responsibility To Protect Research Group Initiatve (R2Pi)
Does the concept of state sovereignty entail obligations as well as rights? If intervention is an unacceptable assault on sovereignty, how should we respond to a Rwanda or a Srebrenica? How do states craft responses to gross and systematic violations of human rights? The Responsibility to Protect Research Group Initiative addresses such difficult questions. Comprised of senior undergraduate & graduate students at the University of Toronto, the groups aim is to promote within the UofT community discussion on the topics of genocide, intervention for humanitarian purposes, and the work of the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty (ICIS). In this way, the group will help situate the work of the Cambodian Genocide Group in the broader context of global responses to complex humanitarian emergencies
